Foundation of Faith

“Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD is a rock for all ages.” — Isaiah 26:4 CEB

In 3rd grade my best friend was the pastor’s son. He lived one fence-hop away from me so we saw each other nearly every day. Our families even took a week-long vacation together to Hilton Head Island. Unfortunately, this pastor was caught up in a scandal involving an inappropriate relationship with the church office administrator. Their family moved away and we started attending a different church.
We really liked our new pastor. He was a dynamic speaker and inspiring leader. Our family was just starting to feel like we belonged when this pastor also had an inappropriate relationship with the office administrator at our new church (you can’t make this stuff up).

It can be pretty disheartening when a mentor lets us down, especially when that person is a spiritual leader. We might experience a sense of disorientation or even begin to question our beliefs. But our faith is not based on Christians, our faith is based on Christ. Jesus was unimpeachable in life and in death. And after he had risen, but before he ascended, he promised that he would be with us always, for all time (Mt 28:20). People have made us leery, but the Lord is worthy of our unfaltering trust.

Dear God, with all our hearts we thank you for your reliable love. Help us to trust in you forever, for you are a rock for all ages. Amen.
